Institut für Interdisziplinäre Restrukturierung (iir) e. V.

The Institut für Interdisziplinäre Restrukturierung (iir) e. V. was founded in October 2009. Organized autonomously as a registered association, it cooperates closely with the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

Our work is committed to optimizing the interests of all stakeholders in the system of German and international Restructuring and Insolvency Law. In cooperation with the Law Faculty of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin we seek to improve considerably the interaction of all stakeholders in insolvency proceedings – especially previous to an insolvency. The emphasis of our work is placed on the interdisciplinary collaboration of political, juridical, economic, fiscal and technical disciplines. The iir provides a platform for exchange and interaction of experts, also at international level, to ensure the optimum benefit for all stakeholders.

The fundamental idea of the iir is that an early and carefully planned reorganization or restructuring is, in general, more beneficial for all stakeholders than initiating insolvency proceedings too late which may lead to various uncertainties and even a liquidation. Practical experience has shown that in many cases companies worthy and capable of being reorganized are liquidated for various reasons in the course of insolvency proceedings. Thereby, the opportunity of a successful turnaround is often missed. The iir seeks to accentuate chances and alternatives and will develop an implementable restructuring model.

The Institute will elaborate qualified statements and public recommendations in the fields of reorganization and restructuring. Furthermore, it will take action prior to political discussions and legislation.

In addition to conferences, seminars, lectures and workshops, the iir will release and promote professional publications. In order to accentuate the international approach of the Institute, we will collaborate closely with other international institutions.
